Modular Carpeting in Iowa Schools

Southeast Warren CSD Utilizes IEC Carpeting Contract

The future of modular carpeting in Iowa schools seems bright.  This past summer Southeast Warren CSD in Liberty Center replaced the 30 year old carpeting in their library/media center.  The process, price and final product of installing modular carpet through the Iowa Educators Consortium (IEC) is worth looking in to.

Superintendent Dr. Harold Hulleman first contacted the local InterfaceFLOR, LLC. representative, Shawna Crabb.  Since they do not have a local installer, Shawna recommended a Des Moines area installer.  Approximately 15 different varieties of carpet square samples were then sent to the school for consideration.  When the carpet arrived in Des Moines, the company set up an appointment to install the carpet and was at the school within days.  Junior-Senior High Principal Terry Gladfelter said, “I was impressed with the ease of installation.”  It took the two-man crew half a day to install a 225 square yard room.  They left behind several boxes of additional carpeting tiles for the upkeep and maintenance of the room.  One of the benefits of modular carpeting is they will be able to replace specific areas instead of the entire room.  According to both administrators, the most labor intensive part was ripping out the old carpet, moving the furniture and preparing the room for installation.

This offering is a competitively bid contract by the IEC.  The pricing varies on the type of carpet selected and the size of the project.  Southeast Warren was satisfied with the discounted pricing and the quality of the product.

“I am pleased with how the carpet looks.  It will be great for hiding stains in high traffic areas.” Mr. Gladfelter commented on the finished product.  He said they would use the modular carpeting again in the future, especially for high traffic areas.  Dr. Hulleman said, “Now that we know how the process works, we will use the IEC again.  We will even look into installing it ourselves. It’s that easy!”
